When you arrive, you will want to go to Swope Conference Center to check in. Here are directions from where the Peter Pan Bus drops you off to Swope:

Some resources from MBL about Woods Hole and the surrounding areas can be found on their website:

Please also find attached a short brochure here:

Besides the necessities, here are some items you might want to bring:
-Beach towel
-Swimming suit
-Swimming goggles
-Bug spray
-Sunscreen
-Flashlight (for night beach excursions)
-Comfortable shoes, especially if you want to play sports
-Musical instruments
-A fan
Bathrooms are dorm style, so bring flip flops for the shower and anything else you might need for that. If you forget something, there is a small general store in town.
If you live locally, you may consider bringing a bicycle. MBL will have a few for our course to borrow.
If it's not clear from maps, everything in Woods Hole is within walking distance. No places you'll need to go are more than 15 minutes by foot from MBL, and most work days, you'll barely need to walk a half-mile total over the whole day.
For a more personal account of the area, please find here some recommendation from former years' teams:
You'll also be eating cafeteria food for 18 meals a week. As far as cafeteria food goes, it's not bad tasting, but it'll probably wear on your palate. In the evenings in the computer lab, we'll keep you supplied with snacks.
Outside of the cafeteria, we strongly recommend Pie in the Sky. This bakery is fantastic. You have to try their popovers. Captain Kidd is the best choice for getting beer and bar food. Quick's Hole is the best choice for cheaper (but not necessarily cheap), lighter fare. Generally, the nicer sit-down restaurants tend to be a little overpriced
due to the location.
Regarding recreation. You'll be working a lot, probably not sleeping as much as you'd prefer, and probably eating rougher than usual. On the schedule, we've explicitly included time for "sports." What that really means is we want you to know that we expect you to take some time for yourselves to enjoy being in a beach town. We'll be sure to do some nighttime swimming, but make sure to go during the day and get some sun sometimes. We also have all the stuff to facilitate games of volleyball, soccer, and ultimate frisbee. If you're into tennis, bring your racquet and balls. WH is also an excellent place for running. Also, if you're into road biking, the area is great for that too. But, unless you live nearby or really like shipping your bike, you can simply rent bikes for day trips either in Falmouth or on Martha's Vineyard. You can probably take bikes on Peter Pan buses, but check the details on their website. The course owns 5 bikes which are in pretty good shape, and they can be
used by anyone on a first-come first-serve basis. You can usually schedule them on the course wiki so that others are aware of what bikes are available.
It's a good idea to bring a beach towel as the provided towels are a little on the small side and they only get washed once a week. The dorms are
not air-conditioned, so if possible, bring a fan or hope you roommate brings a fan. It's usually 10-15 ºF cooler in WH than in the rest of the Northeast, so it
shouldn't be too brutal, but the fan helps. WH DOES have a small supermarket now (yay!), but it only sells essentials so be sure to bring all the stuff you need to live for a month with you. Falmouth is 7 miles away, and you can get everything you need there, but it'll cost you an hour of travel time round trip by the trolley bus to do it. Boston is two hours away by Peter Pan bus, which is the best way to get to and from the airport.
